Doing Drama Differently

Trained by the world leading theatre company for young people with intellectual disabilities, (Open Theatre UK), our practitioners offer an extraordinarily accessible drama experience.

We use a non-verbal physical theatre practice to collaborate with people with intellectual disabilities, creating joyful sessions which reflect and celebrate each individual’s unique creativity.

The sessions work to foster the participant’s agency, capability, creativity and connection.

Through our play-based practice, using music, improvisation and physical theatre, we support the development of each individual’s confidence and self expression. This isn’t drama as you know it.

Meet your facilitators

We are a trio of highly experienced drama teachers—Emma, Colette, and Ainsley—with extensive backgrounds in special needs settings. Having dedicated many years to working in these environments, we are wholeheartedly delighted to now offer a creative practice created especially for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Our approach is deeply influenced by the transformative Open Theatre methods, and our close association with the directors of Open Theatre UK, who serve as our mentors and friends, enables us to provide something truly unique here in Australia.

You guys rock! As evidenced by how involved and engaged everyone was in the sessions. A highlight of our week!
